'I used to go to the Albion Street Co-op for my hair doing and Mr Raymond was the manager. One time they left me in too long for the perm and it was a bit frizzy. I was most particular about my hair and because I was going to sing that night I had to sit with big rollers in all evening.'

' I used to shop for my grandma when I was a child and I used to get te echeque for her at the Co-op and she had a spike she used to stick all the cheques on for the half year. When it came time for the divi she had all the cheques out written up- how much she should get. We used to queue outside the People's Hall in Albion Street, which was the main office, there used to be a long queue for the money.'
