The sports arena has been the venue for a wide variety of activities over the years, including what was meant to be the last Rolling Stones Concert in 1982, and the Children’s Day event, last held in 1963, and briefly revived in 1968. Various attempts have been made over the years to bring it back, but with little success. In this photo we see dancers assembled in the arena on the last day of Youth Week. This was organised by the Yorkshire Evening News newspaper and the Leeds Youth Standing Committee. Many of the spectators are on Hill 60, which is in the background. The photo was taken on 28th September 1942
