Drawing of the Co-op in Albion Street taken from the 'Architect' journal.
'Going back to 1938 I was four years old and all the family used to get dressed up to go go down into Leeds. It was a big occasion. This shop was magnificent. Inside the thing that really fascinated me was all the different shelves stacked with everything you could possibly want. On one side there were blue bags and they had food.. all different kinds of things in them.... My mother had a little book which must have been the divi book and she used to hand the book over and it was about 10 shillings which she must have been paying every week.'
Mr B. Maddison.
