St Anne's Cathedral, Guildford Street

This remarkable photograph was taken just prior to the cathedral's demolition in November 1904. This was done for improvements to be carried out on the Headrow, which at that time was called Guildford Street.

The cathedral was built in 1838 by John Child and raised to cathedral status in 1878. By the end of the century, in order to improve traffic flow, Leeds Corporation compulsorily purchased this site and provided the present location on Cookridge Street.
