The Theatres

This is an outline of the history of the major theatres in Leeds, from 1771 to the present day, with information about their location, early management, and the different types of entertainment they put on.

There is an enormous amount of material on the history of the theatre in Leeds, and it has been impossible to cover everything here; smaller theatres and theatre companies have not been included.

The Local and Family History Library has a large collection of playbills, the majority of which are available at www.leodis.net/playbills http://www.leodis.net/playbillsThe history of the theatres here can be used in conjunction with the Playbills website for background information.
