What an amazing photo. Fast-forwarding to the late 1950s and the shop fronts in this picture underwent some modernising. Stylo opened a very specialised shoe shop and I was a young Saturday girl there. In those days we received a training second to none which has lasted all my working life. The street was buzzing and vibrant. Opposite to Stylo was a wonderful fashion shop called Leaders. I worked there for a time as well. I remember we had the most amazing Manageress called Mrs Robinson - very glamorous and ran the shop like clockwork. Further along from Stylo there was Marshall & Snelgrove (which was known then as the Fortnums of the North, so gracious and luxurious it was. These were wonderful days when if you didn't like your job, you could literally go out in your lunchtime and find another!!

The Rosemont studio later became Pearson and Denham who made and sold cameras and other photographic materials. It was owned by my great grandfather William Denham and later his son George.
