2nd February 1947. The severe snowfalls of 1947 began to settle towards the end of January. Between then and well into March, snow fell every day in Britain somewhere. The heaviest snowfalls since 1814 were recorded. The extreme weather conditions were aggravated by the immediate post-war shortages of food, fuel and materials.
