Buslingthorpe, Aerial View

Buslingthorpe, Aerial View
Description:
16th February 1988. Aerial view showing Scott Hall Road running diagonally across the centre. Left of Scott Hall Road are properties in Scott Hall Avenue laid out in 'boat' shape. Jutting out from the avenue into the green area is the Prince Philip Centre. The green area is the Philip Playing Fields. In the bottom right hand corner properties for older people in Scott Hall Drive snake round in an 's' shape. In the bottom left hand corner Scott Hall is visible. The view looks across to the Reginald's Sholebroke's and Mexborough's in Chapeltown, towards Chapeltown Road and Chapel Allerton.

Sugar Well Hill was way way up to the left,Dropping down from the Quarry, and was very very steep and long into the farms and the Meanwood Valley ,where meanwood beck ran.Known in this area as (THE DAMMY),where as kids we went fishing with little nets made out of cloth flourbags.A point i want to make here is ,The green field in the foreground was raised by as much as you can see, by the right hand end of it.No thought whatsoever was given to the residents who had to look out of their windows, and gaze at this monstrosity so close to them.Including us at 59 Scott hall rd.I would bet, that if the kids today could see what it was like then,And were given a choice, they would have it reversed.

A few weeks ago i was in the area bottom right of this picture. All 6 of those old peoples flats at the top of the S shape have gone. The place looks a mess, with messy type trees growing all over the hillside bottom right of green playing field. There is Horse Manure & dog mess all over the area where the flats were. BRONTE HOUSE is just off the bottom right hand corner of the picture. There are neglected areas around that too. 12-Dec-07.

My mother, Jane Livock, started a Scott Hall Tenants' Association in the 1950s and held all sorts of social events to raise money for a community hall. Eventually the men dug footings for one near where the Caribbean Cricket Club is now but the council took over, said it was illegal and built the Prince Philip Centre instead, which has a completely different function from what was intended - a community hall run by the tenants for the community.
