This is what the co-op looked like before it was extended to the right in 1925. A stone in the facade commerates the occasion. My grandparents Lillie & Maurice Pennington kept an ironmonger's from 1911 to 1946 on the other side of Aberford Road at no. 20, now re-numbered to 136.

The end terrace house was owned by the Roberts family when I was a young lad in the early 50's. Mr Roberts was a manager at the local brewery. It was whilst at this house (I was a friend of the son) that I saw my first television programme).

I lived behind the co-op at No 2 Eshalt place in 1971. In later years after I moved back to Leeds I noticed when passing through that the co-0p had closed and was a furniture shop. I have been past recently and it is again a co-op shop
