Undated. View of Oulton Institute on Quarry Hill. The building was originally opened ' for the benefit of men and youths' to be used as a reading and writing room and was opened in 1894. A single storey building was built on land that was donated by Edmund Calverley. A second storey along with the Harold Hall was built at a later date.

In the 1950's and 60's we used to walk from Oulton School to have our school dinners in the Harold Hall. My grandma Mary Warwick was a school dinner lady. When the school started to grow even bigger, dinner tables were set up in the room to the right of the front door. We used to do our annual Christmas carol concerts in the Harold Hall every year, school Christmas parties and even had P.E. classes there. In the room to the left of the front door was a classroom used mostly I think by Mr. Thackray. The rooms in the back, called the "ante rooms" were used as a health clinic when I was a child. I remember getting injections and physical examinations there and I can still remember that disinfectant smell. I remember the beautiful billiard room upstairs and I would love to see pictures of that.
