Briggate nos. 72 - 77, Queens Arcade
9th May 1935. Queens Arcade, built on the site of the Rose and Crown Hotel. Designed by Edward Clark of London in 1889, was restored in 1994. Numbers 72, 73, 74, J.W. Foster, drapers are offering sale goods to celebrate the Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary number 75, British Shoe Company. Numbers 76, 77 Marks and Spencer bazaar (before move to present site). There are flags and bunting outside the shop, posters in the right window are in celebration of the Royal Jubilee. Left window, full of hats and an announcement that luncheonette counter has opened.
