25th October 1898 Nelson Street was situated parallel to Union Street. Small group of people at the end of the street, one boy holding porters' wheels. Posters on gable end of house include one for war telegrams (Boer War), Carno's (as in the expression 'Fred Carno's Army' meaning a disorganised event), one for the City Varieties. It was demolished totally in the early 1930s to widen what was to be Eastgate.
