The area between the Devon pub and the ring road [uper right in picture]was even in the mid 50's still wooded and covered in low pit slag heaps and known as rabbit wood. [As I remember]

I also remember the area called rabbit wood, and the low spoil heaps left over from mining. I used to explore around there when I lived at Lulworth Crescent in the mid 1950's/early 1960's. The Devon pub was not built until 1962 or later. The house just before the Devon (on the same side of the road) doubled up as a doctors surgery (extention added, and was used by a Dr.S.Scheffrin for a while. This was the last house before you reached rabbit wood & the spoils left over from the days of mining. It is hard to envisage now how it all looked before!
