18th June 1937. On the left, clock sign for hairdresser James Welch at 39 Otley Road. On the right, traffic lights are at the junction with Wood Lane. Parade of shops, the Georgian cafe was at number 20, owned by Confectioners (Leeds) Ltd. Business on the corner of Shire Oak Street was number 18, Robert Alexander Smith, draper. On the opposite corner number 16 was George Septimus Henson, butcher. Traffic using the road includes cars, tram, lorry and two buses belonging to Samuel Ledgard Company.

Another superb picture for local transport enthusiasts - but a little frustrating as once again the registration numbers cannot be read. However the two coaches are of a type of which Samuel Ledgard had several batches. Superb vehicles of beautiful appearance and offering incredible comfort and mechanical efficiency for the time - arguably not surpassed since !! They are Leyland Tiger TS7 or TS8 models with Duple 32 seat coachwork. The "family" consisted of :- EUG 124/5/6/7 and BKW909 from June 1937, CKW267 and GUA637/8/9 from July 1938, HUB498/9 from May 1939. The vehicles in the picture appear to be brand new and it just may be that they were "twins" on a prestige two coach outing - or there again they could be just any two of the others - we are not likely to ever know !!
