Old George Hotel, Lower Briggate
Undated. Sketch of the Old George Hotel which was situated near the junction of Call Lane and Bridge End, shortly before Leeds Bridge. It had originally been called 'Ye Bush', opening in the 17th century. Around 1714 the name was changed to 'The George', the 'Old' being added about 1815 when the nearby George and Dragon opened. Also known as Simpsons Commercial Hotel, one famous visitor was Charlotte Bronte. It closed around 1919.
