My parent's Una and Eic Roberts had a tenancy on this pub through Tetley's Brewery ca. 1967 -1971. It was a great pub, they brought it out of the "Dark Ages" and into the music of that era. They built a stage at the bottom of the concert room, which was "T" shaped and had live music every weekend - the place was packed. I was in my teens and I loved living there! My parent's were great publicans and everybody loved them.

I lived at Cautley Road and although I never actually went in the pub I remember there was a children's tea party held in the gardens for the Queens Coronation. Unfortunately it was a very cold and wet day, but plenty of jelly and sticky buns. There were some concrete pillars outside the pub and we used to leapfrog over them.

This was my dad's local in the late '60s. For a treat , my brother and I would be taken there on a summer's evening for 'pop n crisps'. The old railway to the coal depot at Cross Green ran at the rear of the pub beer garden in which the licencee kept a couple of horses.
