Roundhay Road, Rapid Tramway Track

Roundhay Road, Rapid Tramway Track
Description:
19th July 1922. View of a section of Roundhay Road showing rapid tramway track running parallel to road. The photograph is thought to have been taken from the opposite side of what was to become Gledhow Valley Road, looking north towards Oakwood. A cinder footpath is visible on the right.

Comment:
This is the section of 'reserved track' tramway which ran from the Clock Cinema to a point near Oakwood Clock, where it rejoined the public highway.

The actual point is where the Roundhay pub is now. The building in the back left is the old Gipton pub wich had a lodge to the left into the 60's. The Ravenscar's are behind. To the left is Gipton Wood. In the middle distance the tramway crossing can be seen which to this day has a bus stop and the footpath up through the woods. Grew up as a boy around these parts in the 50's.
