I remember this bridge very well. In fact i'll never forget it. I'd Just left Sheepscar School age 15 yrs August 1952. I had just got my 1st job as a trainee coal miner at Whitwood Colliery, which was over the hill in picture, then turn right at four lane ends, and down the hill.Whitwood Mining & technical college was on the circle at four lane ends. The Castleford bus from Leeds only took us to three lane ends back down the hill, then turned left into Castleford. Consequently,i had no choice along with a handful of other lads from Leeds doing the same thing for 16 weeks, but to walk up and down this hill 5 days a week whether it was to the technical college or the pit. One day whilst walking up this hill to the tech, this was school hours. We were aproaching this bridge and my three mates were having a laugh about something,i know not what, to this day. Meanwhile a young school girl of stout proportions was approaching us. When she reached us, i was the nearest lad, and she gave me the heftiest wallop across my clock (face), which stung for a couple of days. What the bleedin ell was that for? i asked. I didn't even get an answer. NO, i'll never forget this bridge. 19-Dec-07.
