River Aire and Canal, aerial view
Undated. Aerial view looking north showing the River Aire (left) and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (right), with the New Leeds Quarry in between. The railway line crosses the river towards the top centre. Above this is Newlay Bridge with Newlay Lane leading up to the left from it and Pollard Lane down to the right. At the bottom right corner a barge can just be made out on the canal, passing the site of swing bridge no. 220; the bridge is no longer there now but it is not clear whether or not it was still there at the time of the photograph. It carried Whitecote Lane across the canal, by Whitecote House which is still seen to the right of it.
