Description:
28th August 1962 Two stone properties on Meanwood Road. On the left is a space where several houses have been demolished. The exposed gable end of number 284 has been covered with billboards advertising Quality Street and Hovis. Number 284 follows to the right, a grocers, business of A. Smith. Buslingthorpe Lane is visible on the right edge.

If the description is correct,then the building off the right edge has got to be the Primrose public house.Comment made Aug 2006.

The picture does show part of the Primmy, also in background H.Browns clothing manufacturers, next to the Primmy was St Michaels C of E which was used by Bus School On Meanwood Road for special services. The shop supplied many drip cakes and bacon/tomato dips sarnys for Browns(no taste like it today).

correction.. m brown's not h brown's.the m stood for myer.my mother jean cundale nee daniels worked at browns for the largest part of her working life.she live in foster's buildings that faced onto brown's with her brothers sisters and extended family.

This photo was taken in '62. However, in the late 40s the 'demolished' houses were still lived in although over a hundred years old and should have been condemned then. The corner of the building visible to the right is in fact The Primrose Pub and just out of sight is St. Michael's Church.
