Description:
1986 This fish pond or ornamental lake was constructed around 1820, when the estate was owned by Richard Wormald. Ice was taken from the pond in winter and stored in the ice-house to preserve food. It was sometimes referred to as Paul's Pond. The Paul family were the last owners of the estate before it was sold to Leeds City Council in 1954.

When I was younger we would visit this pond. The were numerous tales about the pond, ranging from People drowning in mysterious circumstances to a Lancaster bomber crashing into the pond on its way back to Yeadon airport!

We made and sailed rafts to the island during the 1940s. There was CA[Tony]M, Tina M, Raymond S who trespassed to engage in what now would be thought a risk venture.

I caught many a tench, bream and roach from these murky waters as a young man. It's not really changed at all. I have some fond memories of fishing here in the summertime trying to catch the elusive carp that floated about just under the surface like, big, broad slate-blue submarines.
