Church of the Epiphany

Description:
Undated, This church is situated on Foundry Lane. It was designed by N.F. Cachemaille Day, the foundation stone was laid on 12th July 1937 by Elsie Burroughs. Her brother, Dr Edward Burroughs was Bishop of Ripon 1926 - 1934, the church was consecrated as a memorial to Dr Burroughs in May 1938. The Princess Royal and the Earl of Harewood attended the ceremony. The original church hall was destroyed by fire in 1959, a replacement opened in 1962. The view shows the interior of the Lady Chapel.

My parents, Annie & Jimmy Lee, were married in this church by special licence on Christmas Day 1941. My dad was in the Royal Marines for the duration of World War II but was given compassionate leave for the wedding.

This picture brings back happy memories; with my Brother Trevor I was a choir boy here from 1942..1946. The Minister was the Rev. Southgate. As we have just lost my Sister Mavis on the 12th.March 2005 the picture is a reminder of very happy times when we were "growing up"!!

I too attended this church in the 70s and early 80s. Happy memories. The vicar at the time was Michael Nuttall followed by Desmond Young. I lived in Oak Tree Mount, a stones throw from the church. Brings back memories.

I was married in this church in 1966. My bride lived in the nearby Briarsdale Heights. The East window is constructed as a series of vertical slots - this picture does not do it justice. I believe that the building may have been given 'listed' status. It is certainly unusual enough.

i got married in august 1970 and i went to brownies and guides at the epiphany in the 1950 early 60s happy days, i lived at coldcotes circus, its all changed now, not for the better.

I was christened in this church and after my Mum passed away my Dad re-married there too. I lived in Easterly Cross and I went back there last year. I agree with you Ann, It's certainly not changed for the better.

My son David James/was christened in this church in 1986 when he was 8 month old He was born 13 week premature and not come out of hospital to the May He was born 6/12/85 Due 6/03/86 I remember the vicar telling me the place where David was been chrisoned was worth more than the whole church
