I went to this school from 1985 to 1988 in the middle of both buildings is the school halls of each, the eastern building hall was gutted in a fire in 60's or 70's and was replaced by a modern sports hall the western building hall remained the same as it was when built, the two buildings between the larger ones were the swimming pool at the bottom and the school canteen at the top. Alas the grand building was demolished in 2003-04 to make way for a state of the art new school which lacks the character of the old one!!!

When I attended Lawnswood High School for Girls (left block) in the 60's, there was an imaginary line down the centre of the vast playing field and woe betide any girl who even looked across at the boys of Leeds Modern School (right block) let alone spoke to them! Thank goodness times have changed.

I was a pupil at Lawnswood High School when it was still a girls' grammar school. For any of my contemporaries (or other interested parties) there is a wealth of information about the school on the www.lawnswoodhighschool.com website.

I attended Lawnswood in the 40's and early 50's. When I went it wasn't as built up around it. The girls were let out 15 minutes before the boys, and the girls had to ride downstairs on the trams (the boys were upstairs). i remember the imaginary line!

[Looking NW] I used to live at 26a Ring Road. The most westerly of two bungalows opposite Lawnswood front gate west. I went to Moor Grange High School for Boys, top edge centre of photo. 1977-1980. Then moved to Westmorland.

This is a great picture because I attended LMS from '58 to '65. Also you can see my house in Wynford Avenue, number 8. Wynford Ave is first right off the Ring Road towards Horsforth, where I was born (Four Gables Nursing Home). I also remember that imaginary line down the centre of the playing field, but portacabins in the boys playground heralded mixed 6th Form classes at LMS.
