Old Belle Isle Cottages

Old Belle Isle Cottages
Undated, View looks across the tiny hamlet of Old Belle Isle. Made up of less than 30 cottages, the village lay between Belle Isle Beck and Middleton Colliery tramway to the left and Old Run Road to the right. The cottages were known as "Old Row". In the foreground, a tributary of the beck runs beneath an unmade track. Houses were unnumbered. Prior to the closure of the nearby Broom Pit in 1968 the site of Old Belle Isle Village was used as a tipping area for waste products from the colliery.

The line of trees that can be seen to the left background were the boundary of Middleton Clearings, and the Quarry. The Quarry face can be seen at the far end of the row of cottages.
