The building to the left of John Barran's factory was Fearnly's (not sure if this is the correct spelling) bespoke tailors. They were an 'outworker'of Barrans and did a lot of their special bespoke orders. I was an apprentice in John Barrans's pattern office during the sixtees and remember having to collect Fearnly's stock of patterns when they needed updating.

I worked at John Barrans in the wages office with Miss Yates from 1961 to 1975 I used to go into factory for time cards and coupon books. They were some of the best times in my working life .

My grandparents lived in Chorley Lane up to the 1950s - Frank & Winnie Round. My great grandfather, William Little was a journeyman tailor who worked for Barrans, I remember my great aunt showing me little 'sampler' costumes he made for the 'misses Barran' who were presumably the daughters of John Barran.

My late mother was a resident model at John Barrans in the late 1950s. She always spoke fondly of the place and the people who worked there. One of her managers was a lady called Miss Cliff.
