Undated, Thomas Green and Sons Ltd, Smithfield Iron Works, North street. Manufacture of main plane framework for Swordfish aircraft under subcontract to Blackburn Aircraft Ltd. Thomas Green produced steam rollers, locomotives, road sweeping vehicles and lawn mowers. George Blackburn, father of Robert Blackburn (founder of aircraft company) was works manager early in the 1900s.

When I was working at Tommy Greens in the early 1960s they were buildig road rollers in this shed the rollers were painted by hand and had pin striping on them, I remember some of the rollars had some very expensive city coats of arms transfers on them which had to be handled with great care. I was employde as a coach painter at that time.

i think my grandfather was a manager at factory he was called cyril conley.Dad was a toolroom fitter there alan perkins and mum worked in munitions during war all at greens.I remember going to pantomimes with social club.Uncle philip was a draughtsman there as well
