Photo taken before the clearance of the area in the early to mid 1950s. Row of three houses which were part of Spa Buildings. On the left was number 11, then 12, 13 to the right. The buildings formed a square around the site of an ancient sulphur well, noted as a Spa by Leeds historian Ralph Thoresby, who visited this, Sugar Well, Speed Well and Cuddy Well. The latter was situated behind Ridge Gardens, the water was used for 'tender eyes' and taken 'to put iron in the system'.
