I'm not certain but I think this was originally built around 1965/66 as the Whinmoor Grange Boys Remand home. This remand home was built as a replacement for the one in Western Flatts Park in Wortley. I lived there from it's first opening for a couple of years (I should add my father was a "warder" and I was not an inmate !)

I remember this remand home very well as I was sent there as a 10 yr old by the courts for assesment for pinching a pushbike in 1968. I can't recall any happy memories of this place only brutal and degrading abuse by some of the staff (not all) 3 names stick out in my mind from this place Mr Rigly (superintendent) Mr Walker, and Mr Woods. (wardens)
