View of the John Smeaton public house situated in Swarcliffe Drive opposite Swarcliffe Parade. Once known as 'The Squinting Cat' the pub is now called after the famous civil engineer John Smeaton who was born at Austhorpe Lodge in 1724. He founded the Society of Civil Engineers in 1771 and one of his most well known works is the successful redesign of the Eddystone Lighthouse.
