Along the entrance to Winker green(on the right) were big gates leading to Buxtons Yard.I believed ther were a family of travellers who settles there. There were stables, horse and carts ,and a billy goat that roames about like a dog,and chased us all. They were a lovely family the men wore bright plaid shirts and the women, print checked pinefores, coral beads, and sovereign ear rings Mrs Buxton was good and if anyone was ill would provide them with a drind of brandy We all had street calls, the MUFFIN MAN GOT PIES HOT PEAS,Aunt Sally washing liquor, the rag and bone man Benny Drake with his horse and cart, with fruit and veg,and wet fish. And the milk man with his churns of milk Alady Mrs Cook baked home made bread oven cakes one penny(1d)small loaves 2d and 4d larger loaves Also in Winker Green lived her daughters ,Maud, and family Rose and family and Violet and family,Mrs Cook also ran a rug clubmaking pegged rugs, which we all had in them days, all the house floors were stone. The rugs were warm and cosy though very heavy to "shake"

I remember the Aunt Sally Man. Aunt Sally was a soapy liquid similar to washing up liquid. His customers would take an empty bottle and he would fill it from his containers which were in a small cart he pushed around. He must have had a large round of customers, as I lived in Upper Armley Town Street and he seemed to go all around the various parts of Armley.
