George Fox Lane first began to keep a pack of hounds in the 1740s. He was the son-in-law of Robert Benson (1676-1731), the 1st Baron Bingley, who built Bramham Park in the late 1600s. The Lane Fox family have maintained the pack for many years. Often the Princess Royal and her husband Lord Harewood, the 6th Earl of Harewood would ride with the Bramham Moor Hunt. Among the prominent local families to hunt at Bramham Moor were the Luptons of Leeds. Sir Charles Lupton was Deputy Lieutenant of Yorkshire County (West Riding) when Princess Mary's father-in-law the 5th Earl of Harewood was his Lord Lieutenant; Charles and his brother Hugh were both Lord Mayors of Leeds. Tragically, in 1928 Arthur Lupton, son of Leeds University Pro-chancellor Arthur Lupton, died as the result of a riding accident while on the Bramham Moor Hunt. Other families strongly associated with the hunt were the Maidens, the Boxalls and the Smiths.
