Description: April 1906.
This is a view of a thatched cottage in the village of Thorp Arch. The house on the left is one of many estate houses built in the 1850s to replace run-down thatched cottages. Twenty-two still exist in the village today. They have very distinct chimney stacks in clusters of six. The Lords of the Manor, the Hatfield family would have built these estate houses with money accrued from the sale of land to the York and North Midland Railway Company.
