View of Knostrop Old Hall showing entrance and stone seats to either side of the steps. Knostrop Hall was built by Adam Baynes (1620-1670), an officer in the Parliamentary Army during the Commonwealth period and became MP for Leeds in 1644. He married Martha Dawson and they lived at Knostrop Hall. It became the home of Leeds artist John Atkinson Grimshaw in 1870. (The figure seated to the right of the top of the steps is believed to be Atkinson Grimshaw). It was lived in up until 1959 where it had become the oldest tenanted building. It was sold in 1960 for £50 and was then demolished. Photograph by Wormald of Leeds.
