Description:
June 1965 View shows number 125 Main Street, a Grade II listed building in Shadwell. This property, now Shadwell Village Fish Shop, was built in 1637 of gritstone. In the lintel over the front door is a datestone which reads '1B:AB 1637'. To the left, a shop window and second doorway have been inserted in place of the original 5 light mullion window.

As a teenager I used to take the bus from Harehills to Shadwell on friday or saturday nights regularly to go to dances at the church hall in Shadwell, or just hang about in the street with school friends. We always had fish and chips here. I live in America now and buildings that are 100 years old are on the national historic register!

What fantastic memories I have of 125. My Aunt and Uncle, Thornton & Gertie Roberts and my three cousins Keith,Margaret and Stuart lived here. In the fifties we visited regularly from our home at Far Headingley, in those days it seamed as if we were visiting the country-side. They kept Hens in the back plot where we would collect the eggs in the morning and then of course fish and chips at night. Later they had two houses built on the land at the side of the shop, one for Margaret and one for my Aunt, they lived their until my Aunt died in the late 1990's. Loveley memories.
