Undated, This postcard view shows Austhorpe Hall which was built in 1694 by John More. It is a large, elegant house built of brick with stone detailing and a central pediment. The carved staircase from Austhorpe Hall is now situated in Seacroft Grange.

why don't we look after our heritage more. the hall has gone and probably so as the carved staircase as seacroft grange has been allowed to become derelict. such beautiful architecture just going to waste because no-one can be bothered to restore them to their natural beauty. don't tell me no-one can afford it when they can pay footballer's such disgusting ammounts in the name of sport.

Elaine and Bill, Austhorpe Hall is still there, its just the staircase that was removed. My parents live there, they are both retired and do their very best to stop the place falling into disrepair but its hard when they haven't got "footballers obscene wages".

the hall in this photo looks so wonderful, my great grandmother used to be a domestic servant at the hall working for Henry Appleyard, before she got married, my family is from this area. what happened to barnbow factory ? can anyone help ?

Emma, the Royal Ordnance Factory (Barnbow) was mainly demolished many years ago, and taken over by Vickers (who built the present buildings). There used to be a store further on Austhorpe Lane for the Royal Ordnance Factory (later used by a stationery company before being demolished - now the site for modern housing). It would be a great loss to the area if the hall was ever fell in to dis-repair, and had to be demolished. I have many great memories of this area of Leeds, and I certainly would not like to see the fields turned in to more housing estates.

My husband's cousin,Brian Appleyard,has compiled an extensive family tree and says that Austhorpe Hall belonged to a Joshua Appleyard,born 1808,for about 100 years.He then went to live at Flocton.His descendent,Derek,ex rhubarb grower,lives at East Ardsley.Any more info?
