In my apprentice day's I was working at a shoe shop in an arcade like this, the firm were doing a lot of paperhanging in the store, myself and another apprentice were charged with mixing the paste in the cellar, it had glass bricks like the ones in this image to let in the light, some were missing and we were caught by the foreman looking up through the holes, we both caught a belting round the head and a boot up the butt from him and a lecture from the big boss.
