I lived at Oxley Hill with my parents. My parents bought the house from a surgeon! It was pulled down to build a synagogue, but it took a long time!

The house on the left is where Highfield School playground now stands. I remember standing in the playground and watching the house in the middle being demolished (late 1960's). I remember the monkey puzzle tree in front of the house at the top right. We used to build dens in the bushes to the right of it. There were a lot of Americans living in the new houses behind these in the late 1960's.

i remember the yanks i also went to highfield the headmistress was mrs mason and i vividly recall quite a high wall that divided the playground and the old house grounds you sed to be abble to peer throught it. Cant recall the house on the left but the house on the right was quite dangerous to play in dodgy floor boards with quite log drops

Does anyone know as to what those white 'hat-shaped' blobs are on the right hand side of the picture? They look very symmetrical. Are they really white, or is it just a trick of the light?

good to see it has attracted some interest really eerie place especially when the deralict house on the right was still standing wallpaper hanging of the walls. I am quite certain i saw a ghost walking across the road up to the house bout half way up the line of trees a figure that i saw was there and then gone in a flash god i loved this place so many memories

House top right was called The Moorlands, land now developed as residential complex of flats, still named The Moorlands. Oxley Hill (main house in image) and the next house Heath Cottage were both demolished and the synagogue built on both area's of land. Field in which playground was constructed out of view to left. See Tracks In Time, West Yorkshire Archives internet site. Local Sandringham resident.

My Mother worked for the Surgeon, Digby Chamberlain as housekeeper in the late 30's up to approx early 40's. Does anyone have any photos of the inside or outside of the house at any time. I have pictures of her stood outside with one of the Chamberlain children. I would be very grateful for any information at all.

I was at Highfield mid 80's so only remember the Synagogue but, I do recall playing in the grounds of Lady Park House which I believe I recall being a retirement home before it was abandoned and also demolished to make way for flats which also retain the name...
