June 1965. View looks across a driveway onto Moor Allerton Hall which is situated off Lidgett Lane. This Grade II listed building was built in the late 18th Century as a country house. Later the house was converted to Moor Allerton Hall County Primary School and is now in use as luxury flats.

I went to the primary school here in the late 70's / early 80's. It made a fantastic primary school. This building was for classes 4-8 (5-9year olds). I always remember the weeping willow trees and rhododendrums in the grounds at the front of this house, and I think there were some allotments over the back of a wall in the playground behind the building in the photo! Such a shame it's now flats really as kids imaginations from going to school in this house must have really benefited...

This photo brings back so many happy memories back in the 50s of my schooldays at the hall. Our class was moved from a drab wooden hut type annex at Talbot Road School. In those days the place was surrounded by farm land and work was just starting on the building of the neighbouring Allerton Grange Secondary School. As well as being a wonderful place to be educated, Moor Allerton had all the characteristics of a country mansion surrounded by fields, orchards and even a walled kitchen garden. I remember the head teacher, Miss DAY, catching us pinching the rasberries! Looking back, the facilities were not that wonderful but the atmosphere was terrific.

I was there from Sep '65 to Jun '66. We thought of it as part of Talbot Road School. The first two years were spent at Talbot Road itself, the 3rd at Field House (in the grounds of the hall) and the 4th in the hall with the aptly named Mrs Armour.
