I lived opposite on the newly built Swinnow Estate. Margaret Johnson, her sister Brenda, mother and father lived at no. 1. It was a magical playplace having a large scruffy garden full of old hen huts and falling down buildings. A stone barn was at the rear rented by a Mr Helliwell who lived down Wellstone Avenue. He kept pigs and chickens and let us see them occasionally. We must have been a nuisance as he often 'saw us off' his land! I remember my dog Trixie killing one of his chickens and him dangling it by the neck at our back door one day with him shouting at my father for recompense. There were barn owls in the building - good memories. I think Margaret still lives around the area her sister I believe died some years ago.

I never knew the people who lived in these houses but when they became empty me and my friends used to play in them .... seemed like ages before they were finally demolished .... happy days

My Auntie Nellie and Uncle George Shaw - no relative but childhood friends of my mother - lived in the right hand house until it was demolished. The had Barry, Irene and Keith. Barry born around 1943 loved music and we played his wind up gramaphone and played in the rubarb fields behind the house.
