Houghley Lane, snow
Description:
1969. View along Houghley Lane covered in snow showing Carmel House to the left, with St Bede's Vicarage to the right. Carmel House had originally been Hill Top House then became the Convent of the Good Shepherd. It was later divided into Carmel House, which dealt with child welfare, and St Bernadette's School. Further along Houghley Lane was Hill Top Tannery, later called Hill Top Mills and Planet Works.

I could have been in this picture as I was a pupil at Christ the King junior school at the time! The infant school was just behind where the photographer took this picture. He/she was standing in the grounds of the Christ the King Catholic church, just off canera to the left.
