Yes this is the one that is next to Allerton High School, although there is another home on the Cranmers. Think it's at the junction with Cranmer Bank and Saxon Grove it does look very similar.

I think several council estates around Leeds had a childrens home almost identical to this one. When I was a member of Lawnswood Y.M.C.A. some fellow members were living in the home on the Ireland Wood Estate.

(The descrpition says that this house is on the Moortown Estate, so I dont understand why everyone seems to be debating where it is - it says where it is under the actual picture?) I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Street Lane children's home from about 1975 - my memory isnt great but I think I was there about 2yrs? I initially started off in the main building (Alverton did they call it?) then I moved to another one in the grounds - I think it was called Margaret Home but could have even been Devonshire House....it was the 1st building to the left of the main building, at the side of the playground anyway?? Would be nice to hear from anyone that was in the home at any time, but especially anyone that was there the same time as I was.

I was in Street Lane Children,s Home in the late 50,s and early sixties. The house you show is not the Home. The Home was a very large house with a large front entrance with the door under a large porch. There were playing fields at the back. There was 3 buildings occupied by children and one building occupied for those older children who were made ready for work in the community prior to 'release'.

This is the house next to Allerton High school. I use to play with some of the children from there in the late 60’s to mid 70’s. I had two friends, I think Donna and Gail, we went to Switzerland with the Guides. I remember it being a happy place, full of noise and fun

This is the family group home on Lingfield Approach, next to Allerton High School. There were several houses of the same design on council estates around Leeds. The Street Lane homes were situated at 123 Street Lane and the buildings are still there, near the photo shop. There were three homes on that site, Rachel Nursery, Margaret Home and the Reception Centre where children were assessed.
