Long before it was the bingo hall it was the cinema or Woodlesford Picture-house. As kids in the 50's we used to go to a Saturday Matinee for 6d. Does anyone else remember?

I certainly remember Sheila! 'Shazam'! Woody bug 'utch was an excellent place to go for we youngsters. Hopalong Cassidy, Flash Gordon and Captain Marvel were my favourites.

I should have mentioned that the building was The Ritz Cenema in the days of the Saturday Matinee. Who remembers the song? 'Here we are again, Happy as can be, All good friends and jolly good company. Never mind the weather Never mind the rain, This is our fun day Whoops we go again La di da di da La di da di de All godd friends and jolly good company' Then we preceded to fire lollipop sticks around us (unless Auntie Susie from the ticket kiosk was watching of course).

I remember going to see the film "Kes" there around 1970. I don't know when it changed to the bingo place, but I also remember playing snooker there at some point - maybe around 1992-3 ?

Growing up in Oulton nearby to Woodlesford, or otherwise fondly known as Woody, the old cinema/stroke Bingo hall was also a snooker hall in the late 80s to late 90s.

never went to the pictures but when it was the bingo.i went most saturday nights with my grandmar edwards sat on a big table with all her mates.then in the 90,s it became the snooker center.had some brill nights in there saturday was quiz night and later on i would set thed quiz .we had some fancy dress nights also wish i had photo,s but sadley not.

I can remember going to the Saturday matinées with my 2 sisters in the mid sixties. I loved the usherettes who used to shout "shurrup" as they shone their torch at the noisy offenders. Magical memories.
