27th October 1978 View of Cross Green Lane looking south east, showing juction with Ark Street in the foreground. A. Lightfoot, clothiers is at No. 43 in the centre, by the junction with Easy Road. There are advertising hoardings by the road and a telephone kiosk and bus shelter in view.

Somewhere on this corner was a Jewish-owned Tailoring factory by the name of Peter Peck. I worked there for about 6 months, in 1966, with my late Uncle (Tommy Wharton). This was almost immediately prior to my joining the Army in early 1967. It is a place of unhapppy memories and even today, I shudder when I have cause to drive past its former site.

Ken Iam so sorry to hear about uncle tommy Did your uncle Tommy have a brother named Norman who went to saville green school in the 1940s,and lived in the torre estate either torre drive or torre mount?

just round the corner from the phone box is a cafe called the captins table which has been there agood few years to the left of this photo is a firm callec daniels who fit signs on petrol forecourts
