December 1988 View of crowds gathered in the Market Place for the switching on of the Christmas lights. In the foreground is the Jubilee Clock, built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. It was designed by local architect Alfred Marshall and built by W Maston for a cost of £180. In the background on the left is Barratts shoe shop.
