Description:
14th December 1990 View of the east side of Briggate showing the entrance to the Empire Arcade. This was opened in 1964 on the site of the old Empire Theatre; in 1996 it was redeveloped to become Harvey Nichols. R.L.Gowns, ladieswear, can be seen in the arcade. Next to it at No.107-108 Briggate is Rose's Jewellers, then a shop in the process of being redeveloped.

Ah....the Empire many happy memories of the moss empire from pantomimes tin my childhood to Rock n Roll Stars in my teens most of them appeared there .

Empire Theatre went to see laurel and Hardy in the 1950s.One of my happy memories..Also lots of other big stars of the age .
