Middleton Lodge, Middleton Park

Middleton Lodge, Middleton Park
Undated. Middleton Lodge was built C 1760 and is thought to have been designed by James Paine a Yorkshire Architect. It was the residence of the Brandling family until 1860s. Later in the 19th Century until 1920 it was occupied by the Maude family, Edmund Ward was a partner in the Middleton Estate and Colliery Company.

I remember my mother telling me that the family who lived there (most likely the Maud family) had a baby which they placed outside in the pram but unfortunately the sun moved round the building on to the pram and the baby died. This building later became Middleton golt house.
