View of Lofthouse Library and Post Office situated in Carlton Lane. The buildings are in an elevated position and can be accessed by steps or a slope with handrails from street level. The library was opened in 1961 and replaced the former accommodation in Lofthouse Methodist Schoolroom. The new pre-cast concrete library building served a population of about 3000 people and was initially stocked with a book collection of 4,500.
