In the early fifties the garage was run by a Mr Walsh, who also worked at Methley Junction Colliery just up the hill from the garage at the same time.

My dad(Samuel Mitchell)worked down Methley Junction Colliery,in the mid fifties. During this time, while working at the junction, he worked in the yard seam, and had to descend the coronation shaft at the nearby(Savile Park Colliery)where i worked in the Beeston Seam. But i rode the red cladded head gear shaft. Which was the upcast shaft. We were both from (Leeds) by the way.The reason for his using the Savile shaft is,because it was more convenient for the yard seam. Both pits of course, were joined underground.
