Undated. Aerial view looking north towards Manston with Austhorpe to be seen at the bottom of the picture. The Leeds - Selby railway runs from left to right across the centre. The area is mostly covered with fields and shows little development.

I would guess that this picture was taken in the early to mid sixties. In the centre of the shot there is a rectangular wood which is regrowth after the huge open cast mine finished. The circular track for testing tanks can be seen bottom left sandwiched between the railway line on the south and Manston Lane on the northern boundary.To the right about an inch from the end of the track is Lazencroft farm on the northern side of Manston Lane. The whole photograph is looking north towards Scholes upper left and Barwick in Elmet upper centre.

I've spent many a happy hour walking around the fields to the bottom right of this picture, north of Barrowby Road/Lane, heading out towards Garforth. Sadly, the area is now being decimated by Thorpe Park business park.
