View of post war prefabricated housing on Jarvis Walk, on the Robin Hood Estate, taken shortly before demolition. They had far exceeded their temporary, 10 year lifespan and successfully provided comfortable homes for generations of local people until the summer of 2006. There was a considerable protest in 2003 when plans were announced to demolish the homes in line with the new Government 'Decent Homes Standard' to be fully implemented by 2010. Individuals had spent money on improvements to the houses over the years, but the Government decided that it would not be cost effective to provide the necessary further refurbishments and that it would be more economical to provide new homes of a higher standard. The 69 prefabricated houses were all finally demolished in September of this year, 2006. Red brick bungalows replaced them.
